HAPPYDU VILLAGE: Soweto - Katutura Windhoek
On the 1st of October 2017, the mayor of Windhoek inaugurated the first HAPPYDU VILLAGE in Soweto - Katutura
"Happydu Village Soweto" was located within the grounds of the AFM Revival Church near Soweto - Katutua, Windhoek and It has become a landmark and a meeting place for children and adolescents from the surrounding neighborhood.
The project welcomed 100 children and teenagers and operated seven days a week to provide a concrete solution to the lack of recreational and hospitality facilities, especially during weekends, a time when alcohol and drug abuse threaten the lives of many teenagers
This is one of the reasons why significant attention was given to sports activities, coordinated by two local coaches. In January 2018, we registered our volleyball teams with the NVF (Namibian Volleyball Federation).
Hence, we created a big space for the children to participate in sports activities and practices coordinated by some local coaches.
Eight local staff members were employed: two teachers for preschool services, two teachers for after-school activities, one teacher for music lessons, one cook, and two coaches.
Over the years, Happydu Village has offered a variety of services to approximately 100 children and teenagers, including preschool, after-school programs, sports and music activities, and meal service for all the staff and children.
