HAPPYDU VILLAGE RENATA, MONDESA
HAPPYDU VILLAGE RENATA, Mondesa (Swakopmund, Namibia)
On the 29th of January 2022, the mayor of Swakopmund inaugurated the project.
On the 14th of October 2019 we formalized, with the Municipality of the City of Swakopmund, the purchase half a hectare of land in Mondesa, a neighborhood in Swakopmund created during the apartheid regime. Mondesa and especially the nearby DRC (Democratic Resettlement Community) are underdeveloped areas where thousands of people live in very poor conditions. Many areas are without water, electricity, and sanitary facilities. And the surrounding schools are lacking in terms of both quality and quantity which leads to more children leaving school early. The project is active 7 days a week to give a concrete response to the lack of accommodation and recreational facilities especially during the weekend, when alcohol and drug abuse threatens the lives of many adolescents. The project is an important reference point for the entire community.
Happydu Village Renata Mondesa is devoloping a very important project called: "Single Young Mothers Project".
PURPOSE
REASONS FOR THE WOMEN’S PROJECT
In Namibia, most women are victims of discrimination and have a low social status due to a lack of financial emancipation and difficulty in accessing resources. To aggravate their condition some of them are HIV / AIDS patients and thus with a deteriorating health cannot always sustain a good job. As a means of coping with all these trials and tribulations most women and or their children move to substance abuse. At the same time women face the hardships of having partners that are physically abusive towards them. Ergo, the Happydu Single Young Mothers Project initiative was created as a means of psychological and socio-economic support to the young mothers to develop themselves in aims of guaranteeing a happy and stable life. We want to create a supportive environment in which young women can act as catalysts for change in the Namibian communities.

PURPOSE
- To promote access to education and offer educational opportunities to many children and young people living in the neighborhood of Swakopmund, which lacks essential services and gathering spaces. The project also aims to tackle the widespread early school leaving. Real change, especially in underdeveloped areas, such as the abovementioned, begins with education. It is the only weapon to counter the high unemployment rate and it’s dramatic social-economic consequences.
- We intend to make a concrete contribution to creating the conditions for solid social emancipation and to the reduction of the abandonment of minors, by helping single young mothers to become self-sufficient, allowing them to gain their independence.
